PM Modi meets Chinese President Xi

Johannesburg [South Africa], July 27 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the BRICS summit here on Thursday (local time).

The two leaders, who are meeting for the third time in less than four months, held talks to further friendship between India and China.

A tweet posted by the Prime Minister's Office read, "Furthering India-China friendship. PM @narendramodi and President Xi Jinping hold talks on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in South Africa."

In April this year, Prime Minister Modi had visited China for an informal summit with President Xi.

In China's Wuhan City, the two leaders held delegation-level talks and underscored the need for strengthening bilateral relations between India and China.

While Prime Minister Modi said that the bilateral relations between the two Asian giants would be based on shared vision and strong relationship, President Xi agreed to cooperate and work with India to seek guidance.

On a related note, Prime Minister Modi, who arrived in Johannesburg on Wednesday for the BRICS Summit, also met Argentinean President Mauricio Macri on Thursday.

The 10th BRICS Summit, as a milestone in the history of BRICS, was held under the theme "BRICS in Africa: Collaboration for Inclusive Growth and Shared Prosperity in the fourth Industrial Revolution".

The three-day summit began yesterday with the BRICS Business Forum Meet.

India signed MoUs in the fields of education, skill, health and agriculture with South Africa. (ANI)
