Weather Alert: Cloudbursts Trigger Flash Floods in Doda and Kishtwar

Heavy rainfall, cloudbursts, and flash floods have caused widespread disruption in the Jammu and Kashmir districts of Doda and Kishtwar. In Doda’s Khatri area, intense rain triggered flash floods and landslides, damaging roads and disrupting normal life. National Highway 244 was blocked at several locations due to debris and mudslides, while multiple vehicles suffered damage. Rescue teams and local authorities moved residents to safer locations and launched road-clearing operations. Reports indicate that one person lost his life after being struck by lightning during the severe weather. In Kishtwar, cloudbursts in the Ghan and Machipal-Sarthal regions led to heavy flooding, overflowing streams, and landslides. Roads were blocked by falling rocks and debris, bringing traffic to a halt. Several trees were uprooted in forested areas, and water entered low-lying villages. Despite the destruction, district officials reported no major loss of life or property in Kishtwar. Authorities have issued advisories urging residents to stay away from rivers, streams, and vulnerable areas as adverse weather conditions continue.
