With the resignation of all government members except the Prime Minister on 3 April 2022, Sri Lanka is on the verge of political upheaval in the middle of an economic catastrophe. On 4 April, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa appointed a new four-member Cabinet, including ministers of external affairs, finance, education, and highways, to maintain the country's functioning until an all-party interim administration is created. However, the newly appointed finance minister, as well as the finance secretary, resigned within 24 hours of their appointments.
