Does Social Media Contribute To ADHD? Exploring The Connection Between Digital Use And Attention Disorders | Health Live

According to a study published in JAMA, researchers from California examined the digital media usage of over 2,500 high school students who initially showed no symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The study aimed to understand the potential impact of social media and screen time on the development of ADHD symptoms. The most common symptoms of ADHD include inattentiveness, which manifests as being easily distracted or having trouble organizing tasks; hyperactivity, characterized by difficulties in remaining still; and impulsivity, which involves making hasty decisions without considering potential consequences. Findings from this research could provide valuable insights into how increased digital media exposure may correlate with ADHD symptomatology, thereby informing parents, educators, and healthcare professionals about the importance of monitoring screen time among adolescents.
