'55 In Maths, 70 In English': IAS Officer Shares His ‘Classified’ Class 10 Marksheet, Earns Praise

Despite his average academic performance in Class 10, Shahid Choudhary still managed to become a distinguished IAS officer. Here is what he shared.

We all agree that Indian parents and society are obsessed with their children's scores and ranks in school. To buttress the point that board results does not decide the future of students, an IAS officer recently shared his Class 10 marksheet on Twitter. IAS Shahid Choudhary, who is the secretary in the Tribal Affairs Department, passed Jammu and Kashmir State Board in 1997 with first division.

As per the marksheet, Choudhary didn't get top marks in Class 10. He got 70 marks in English, 71 in Urdu, and 88 in Science. But in Mathematics and Social Studies, he received only 55 marks in each subject.

"On students' demand, here's my Class-X Mark-sheet which has remained 'classified' since 1997! 339/500," Choudhary wrote along with a screenshot of his marksheet.

Despite his average academic performance in Class 10, Choudhary still managed to become a distinguished IAS officer. It shows that marks aren't the only benchmark of one's knowledge and one can excel in life no matter what grades they receive in school.

Shahid Choudhary's post, which has gone viral, received more than 6,500 likes and has been retweeted more than 430 times. The inspiring tweet also received an avalanche of responses from social media users.

"It has been proved that marks do not matter. Only hard work and dedication matter," a user said. "No need for your score card, sir. Your work speaks in public! You are always in peoples' hearts as a tremendous public servant!" shared another.

"It was an average percentage! But you prove it, sir, that a marksheet cannot decide your future," wrote another user.
