'I Miss Pune's...': Employee Regrets Moving To Bengaluru, Says 40% Salary Hike Feels Like Peanuts
A corporate professional who moved from Pune to Bengaluru for a 40% salary hike regrets his decision, calling the higher pay "peanuts" due to high rent, traffic woes, and rising expenses.

The criticism of Bengaluru by professionals is not taking any rest. A couple of days ago, a man criticized the tech city by calling out the “worst traffic,” “bad water,” and “less private space per individual.” Now, again, a LinkedIn post has called out the city for its high rental costs and traffic woes.
A corporate professional who moved from Pune to Bengaluru for a lucrative 40% salary increase has expressed deep regret over his decision. His story, shared by a friend in a now-viral LinkedIn post, has sparked discussions about the cost of living and quality of life in India’s metro cities compared to tier-2 cities.
According to the post, the man was earning Rs 18 lakh per annum (LPA) in Pune before accepting a Rs 25 LPA offer in Bengaluru. However, within a year, he admitted to his friend, "I shouldn't have switched cities. Pune was way better, 25 LPA feels like nothing in Bengaluru."

His friend, taken aback, asked, "What are you saying? 40 per cent increment is a decent hike, you should be saving more money. Why do you want to come back?"
The employee then revealed the financial and lifestyle struggles he faced in Bengaluru. "It's peanuts for Bengaluru," he said. "Rents here are exorbitantly high. Landlords are misers, asking for three-four months' of deposit. Traffic is terrible and commuting costs a fortune."
He also reminisced about Pune’s affordability, particularly its local street food, saying, "I miss Pune's Rs 15 vada pav. At least life and savings were decent there."
The friend concluded his LinkedIn post with a thought-provoking question: "Which would you prefer - a metro city or a tier-2 city?" This post resonated with many LinkedIn users, who shared their own experiences and perspectives.
Users Reaction to The Viral Post
Users under the comment section shared their experience and one of them said, "Not even 25 LPA, 35 LPA, or even 40+ LPA is enough for a city like Bangalore. The number sounds good to say out loud, but that’s where it ends.
The reality is that this city makes you feel inferior day by day. It makes you curse at least 3-4 people unintentionally. It deteriorates your health year after year. The unimaginable rise in rent, travel costs, and lifestyle expenses turns you into a greedy person—always wanting more just to keep up."
Whereas another one said," While Bangalore is expensive, calling 25 LPA 'peanuts' is a bit of a stretch. Yes, rent and deposits are high, and traffic is a nightmare, but it's also a city full of opportunities and experiences. People manage to live comfortably on much lower salaries too! Maybe your friend just needs better budgeting skills instead of blaming the city."
Not For The First Time
This incident is not an isolated one. Previously, another professional who relocated from Noida to Bengaluru for a salary hike of Rs 30,000 per month expressed similar dissatisfaction. He lamented the city’s infrastructure issues, stating, "Now here in Bangalore, the city is dirty, not organised, has bad roads, worst traffic, bad water, less private space per individual and the north vs south thing can be seen.
Never in Noida I found dense populated places, Bangalore is completely opposite to that."
