Hyderabad: Telangana's Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development KT Rama Rao Thursday wrote to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman requesting her to allocate Rs 7,778 crore for the state in the upcoming Union Budget 2022-23.
He asked for financial assistance from the Centre for various projects such as the KPHB-Kokapet-Narsingi Corridor, the Warangal Metro-Neo project, Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS), the Metro Neo Network, the second instalment of the Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP), the Moosi Riverfront Development, East-West Expressway, elevated corridors and construction of sewerage treatment plants.
The letter has details of each project for which funding has been sought from the Centre.
KTR said the initial estimate for the MRTS project was Rs 3,050 crore, and asked Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to sanction Rs 450 crore for it, which would be around 15 per cent of the project cost.
The minister said that the Mass Rapid Transit System project would expand to about 30 km by 2030, with an estimated passenger capacity of 5 lakh. He said it would also be linked to the proposed Airport Express in Narsingi and the existing metro network in the financial district.
KTR also requested funds to be sanctioned for the Warangal Metro-Neo project, amounting to Rs 184 crore, and requested that the Union government sanction 20 per cent of the project cost.
He said the state government is exploring the possibility of making Metro-Neo coaches in Telangana in line with the central policy of "Make in India" and "Atma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan".
