Turning Down OBC Candidates Will Send Wrong Message: Kavitha As Telangana Guv Rejects BRS Nominations

The statement of Kavitha comes after Telangana Governor Tamilisai rejected the recommendation of the Cabinet to appoint Dr Dasoju Sravan and Kurra Satyanarayana as MLCs under the Governor's quota.

Rejecting the names of two candidates from the Most Backward Community (MBC) will send a wrong message, warned BRS MLC Kavitha in connection with the rejection of MLCs' recommendation by the Governor on Tuesday. The statement of Kavitha comes after Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Monday rejected the recommendation of the Cabinet to appoint Dr Dasoju Sravan and Kurra Satyanarayana as MLCs under the Governor's quota.

According to ANI, BRS MLC K Kavitha said, "Rejecting the 2 names proposed by BRS for the MLC seats is nothing but a clear violation of the federal spirit of the nation."

"This nation is a federal nation and it works on federal traditions that were established a long time back and that kind gives a bonhomie between state and central govt but since the BJP govt has come into power in Centre, Governors have been...disturbing the state govts...the 2 names that we proposed to the council belong to most backward community sections and by rejecting them is going to send a wrong message," she said.

The rejection of MBC members comes at a time when the horizontal reservation for OBCs in Women's Reservation Bill has become the center of the Opposition's campaign in boll-pound states. The Opposition mainly Congress has tried to corner BJP over the lack of an OBC quota in the Women's Reservation Bill.

The 'Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam', which will be implemented after the first delimitation exercise, reserves one-third of the seats in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies for women, including the National Capital Territory of Delhi. Following this, demands have been raised for introducing a sub-quota for women from the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category in the legislation.
