The Regional Meteorological Department said thunderstorms accompanied with lighting and gusty winds at a speed of 30 to 40 kmph are very likely to occur in some districts of Telangana.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light to moderate rain and thunderstorms at isolated places over Telangana for the next four days. The Regional Meteorological Department (Hyderabad) said that thunderstorms accompanied with lighting and gusty winds at a speed of 30 to 40 kmph are very likely to occur in the districts of Adilabad, Komaram Bhim, Asifabad, Manchiryala, Nirmal, Nizamabad,Jagityal, Rajanna Sircilla,Karimnagar,Pedapally,Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mulugu, and Kamareddy of Telangana.

On Monday, a hailstorm hit parts of Hyderabad, especially in the central areas. People busy with Ramzan shopping in markets around the historic Charminar were surprised as the sudden showers brought ice pellets. In a couple of places, roads were covered by a white sheet of hailstones.

Nampally, the High Court, Goshamahal, Begum Bazar, and Bahadurpura areas also received hailstorms. Several videos of people playing with ice pellets went viral on social media.

Areas like Chanchalguda, Saidabad, Champapet, Koti, Abids, Narayanguda, Himayat Nagar, Liberty, Basheerbagh, and Hyderguda also witnessed rainfall. Stagnation of water on roads slowed traffic in some areas. People returning from offices and workplaces were stranded due to unexpected rains.

This is the third time this summer that parts of Telangana have received hailstorms.

"These hailstorms are a common phenomenon and occur every time temperatures shoot up. An increase in temperature leads to more moisture in the air, which leads to cloud bands forming rapidly. Within GHMC limits, this is the second such event recorded within the span of a month, which is normal during summers." an IMD official told Times Now.
