Telangana Polls: Prohibitory Orders Put In Place, Educational Institutions In Hyderabad To Remain Shut

Election Commission has instructed star campaigners and other political leaders to abstain from engaging with the media through press conferences or interviews on election-related topics.

Ahead of the Assembly elections scheduled for November 30 in Telangana, the police have enforced prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code. Following the conclusion of campaigning on Tuesday, these measures were implemented to prevent any potential untoward incidents. Additionally, the Election Commission has mandated that outsiders vacate the constituencies. In response to the electoral activities, the Hyderabad district administration has declared a two-day public holiday for educational institutions in the districts starting from November 29.

The Chief Electoral Officer Vikas Raj said the enforcement agencies were keeping a tight vigil to prevent freebies, liquor, and cash distribution. Since the model code of conduct came into place in Telangana, the enforcement agencies seized cash, liquor, gold, drugs and freebies worth over Rs 730 crore.

The CEO emphasized the importance of strict monitoring to prevent any violations of the restrictions during the silent period. He explicitly stated that political campaigning on social media is prohibited, and only approved advertisements will be permitted in print media.

Additionally, star campaigners and other political leaders have been instructed to abstain from engaging with the media through press conferences or interviews on election-related topics.

Taking to X, the Hyderabad Collector said, “In view of the Telangana Assembly Elections 2023, all educational institutions in Hyderabad district will remain closed on 29th and 30th Nov 2023. Regular activities resume on 1 Dec 2023.”
