Telangana 'Phone Tapping' Case: Police File Chargesheet Against Six Accused, Including Former DSP

However, no leaders from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), which was in power in Telangana during the period under scrutiny, were named in the chargesheet.

In a significant development regarding the Telangana phone tapping case during the previous BRS regime, the police have filed a chargesheet in a Hyderabad court on Tuesday. The chargesheet implicated six individuals, including a suspended Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of Special Intelligence, shedding light on alleged offenses related to phone tapping and destruction of official data.

According to a report on NDTV, no leaders from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), which was in power in Telangana during the period under scrutiny, were named in the chargesheet.

The Hyderabad police identified the accused as Deputy Superintendent of Police D Praneeth Rao, Additional Superintendents of Police Bhujanga Rao and Tirupathanna, Former Deputy Commissioner of Police (Task Force) Radha Kishan Rao, former Special Intelligence Branch Chief Prabhakar Rao, and Sravan Kumar. While four of the accused have been arrested and provided confession statements, Prabhakar Rao and Sravan Kumar remain at large.

The chargesheet, as reported by Deccan Chronicle, delves into the modus operandi, alleging that Praneeth Rao, who received an accelerated promotion to DSP in 2023, spearheaded a team dedicated to phone tapping through exclusive leased lines.

The Telangana phone tapping case came to light last year after the Congress formed the government in Telangana, triggering widespread controversy. Reports surfaced alleging that the phones of several prominent individuals, including opposition leaders, were tapped during the tenure of the Chandrashekar Rao-led government. Later, the data was also reportedly destroyed by the leaders.

On March 10, the police filed a case and initiated an investigation.

Subsequently, Radhakishan Rao, Tirupathanna, Bhujanga Rao, and Praneeth Rao were arrested in connection with the incident and were subsequently remanded. Earlier, Telangana BJP leader Kishan Reddy also demanded a judicial inquiry into the allegations of phone tapping.
