Telangana MLA Mynampally Hanumantha Rao Resigns From BRS After Party Denies Ticket To His Son

Hanumantha Rao's name was present in the first list of 115 candidates released by BRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao on August 21.

BRS MLA Mynampally Hanumantha Rao resigned from the party after his son was allegedly denied ticket for upcoming Assembly elections, on Saturday. The MLA made the announcement through a video message and also hinted that he would soon join another party.  Hanumantha Rao is a sitting MLA from Malkajgiri constituency in Greater Hyderabad. The BRS had decided to field him in the upcoming elections again. However, the MLA decided to quit the party after the leaders reportedly ignored his demand to give party ticket from Medak constituency to his son Rohit Rao, reported IANS.

The MLA from BRS said that he resigned as per the wishes of people of Malkajgiri, his supporters and well-wishers from remote parts of Telangana.

He promised the populace that he would support them and work on their behalf as long as he was alive. There was no discussion of capitulation, he claimed.

In a letter to KCR, Mynampally Hanumanth Rao as a reason for his resignation said, "There is no democracy or transparency in functioning. The party leadership has ignored the voices and opinions of the grassroots workers and leaders and has taken unilateral decisions without any consultation or consensus. The name change of the party from TRS to BRS against the wishes of the rank and file of the party is a glaring example of this. The unfruitful attempts to expand into neighboring states have taken away the focus of the party from the development of Telangana."

Hanumantha Rao's name was present in the first list of 115 candidates released by BRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao on August 21.

However, the MLA even threatened to contest the election as an independent candidate if his son was not given a ticket from Medak constituency.

BRS has renominated sitting MLA Padma Devender Reddy from Medak.
