'KCR Wanted To Join NDA': PM Modi Reveals 'Secret' On Meeting With Telangana CM, Plan For KTR

Telangana Election 2023: PM Modi trained guns at the ruling BRS and the Congress, claiming that both parties were in a "backdoor alliance" to split votes in the upcoming assembly polls.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday addressed a mega gathering in Telangana's Nizamabad where he revealed a "secret" claiming that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, also known as KCR, wanted to join NDA when he came to meet him in Delhi after Hyderabad Municipal Corporation election in 2020. In another meeting, KCR allegedly said he wanted to give over the reigns of the government to his son K. T. Rama Rao (KTR), but PM Modi said he rebuked the idea saying that it was up to the voters to elect KTR and make him Chief Minister.

PM Modi reminisced about the days leading up to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) polls when KCR would personally receive him at the airport with grand gestures of respect and fanfare. He recalled, "But, why did it stop suddenly? Why so much anger suddenly? The reason for that is, after the Hyderabad polls, he came to Delhi to meet me. He gave me a beautiful shawl and honoured me. He showed so much love that it was not in the character of KCR."

He went on to reveal that KCR had expressed interest in joining the NDA and had requested Modi's support.

"When BJP won 48 seats in the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation election, KCR needed support. Before this election, he used to welcome me at the airport, but later suddenly he stopped doing so. After the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections, KCR came to meet me in Delhi and said that he wanted to join NDA. He also asked me to extend support to him. I told him (KCR) that due to his deeds, Modi cannot be associated with him," he remarked.

PM Modi said that in another meeting, KCR allegedly said he wanted to give over the reigns of his government to his son K. T. Rama Rao (KTR), but the Prime Minister recalled rebuking the idea saying that it was up to the voters to elect KTR as their Chief Minister.

The Prime Minister also noted that KCR had been avoiding him since their exchange, stating, "No corrupt person can sit in my company."

KCR's avoidance of Modi during the latter's visits to Telangana and their lack of shared appearances on stage in recent years has faced criticism from BJP leaders.

The remarks came after he dedicated the first 800 MW Unit of phase 1 of the Telangana Super Thermal Power Project by NTPC to the nation aimed at enhancing power generation and energy efficiency.

This project, focused on sustainable development, will supply cost-effective electricity to Telangana, fostering economic growth while maintaining stringent environmental standards, as per a statement by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).

PM Modi highlighted that he had the "good fortune" laying the foundation for the project and is now inaugurating it. He remarked that "Gujarat's son" Vallabbhai Patel freed the state from Nizam's rule and now another son, referring to himself, has come to ensure the development of the state.

"A democratic country like India should not be emphasising parivarvaad (dynastic politics)," he said, adding that family-run parties have made democracy into "loot-tantra".

Training guns at Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao's family, he said that one family and done a great disservice to thousands of families of the state, "shattering their dreams".

He warned the gathering against voting for the Congress saying the "country has rejected" the party. PM Modi claimed that both BRS and Congress are in a "backdoor alliance".

He also said that Congress and its "INDI Alliance" stalled the passage of Women's Reservation Bill for three decades, the "Ghamandiya" alliance "conspired" to delay it.

PM Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for various development projects with an estimated worth of around Rs 8,000 crore, according to the official release.

The Telangana rail infrastructure received a significant boost as the Prime Minister unveiled several key railway projects during his visit. These projects include the inauguration of a new Railway Line connecting Manoharabad and Siddipet, as well as the electrification of the Dharmabad-Manoharabad and Mahabubnagar-Kurnool railway lines.

The newly inaugurated 76 km Manoharabad-Siddipet rail line promises to invigorate socio-economic development, particularly in the districts of Medak and Siddipet. Meanwhile, the electrification initiative for the Dharmabad-Manoharabad and Mahabubnagar-Kurnool routes will enhance train speeds and usher in eco-friendly rail transportation across the region. Additionally, the Prime Minister flagged off the Siddipet-Secunderabad-Siddipet train service, a move to benefit local rail commuters in the area.

In an effort to bolster Telangana's healthcare infrastructure, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also laid the foundation stone for 20 Critical Care Blocks (CCBs) across the state as part of the Pradhan Mantri - Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission. These CCBs will be strategically located in various districts, including Adilabad, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Jogulamba Gadwal, Hyderabad, Khammam, Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Mahabubnagar (Badepally), Mulugu, Nagarkurnool, Nalgonda, Narayanpet, Nirmal, Rajanna Sircilla, RangaReddy (Maheshwaram), Suryapet, Peddapalli, Vikarabad, and Warangal (Narsampet).

These critical care facilities are poised to significantly augment healthcare infrastructure at the district level, providing crucial medical services to the people of Telangana, as per the PMO.
