Telangana: BRS Stages Protests Against Congress Government's 'Anti-Farmer' Policies
BRS Working President KT Rama Rao called on the state government to accelerate paddy procurement and noted that farmers had begun harvesting crops approximately 25-30 days ago.
The opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) staged a protest alleging that the Congress government in Telangana betrayed farmers by failing to deliver on the promised bonus for the minimum support price (MSP) for paddy on May 16. In a statement on Wednesday, BRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao claimed that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had promised a bonus of Rs 500 per quintal for paddy immediately after the Lok Sabha polls.
However, Chandrasekhar Rao noted that Reddy is now stating the bonus will only be paid for a slender (specific) variety of paddy.

"The Congress has once again betrayed farmers by saying that bonus would be paid only for slender variety of paddy," he said, as per a report on PTI. He added that the protests should be held in all assembly constituency headquarters.
KCR alleged that the Congress government made several promises to farmers but failed to keep them. He urged BRS cadre to be present at paddy procurement centers to support farmers, claiming that they were facing hardships because the government was not procuring their paddy.
Earlier, BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao urged the Congress to prioritise administration over politics now that the Lok Sabha elections 2024 have concluded. He called on the state government to accelerate paddy procurement, noting that farmers had begun harvesting crops approximately 25-30 days ago and were awaiting procurement.
