Telangana: BRS Announces Three Candidates For Legislative Council Polls

BRS President and Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao announced that Deshapati Srinivas, K Naveen Kumar and Challa Venkatrami Reddy will be the BRS candidates.

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) on Tuesday announced three candidates for the Telangana Legislative Council polls under MLA quota. BRS President and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao announced that Deshapati Srinivas, K Naveen Kumar and Challa Venkatrami Reddy would be the BRS candidates.

According to an IANS report, Naveen Kumar has been fielded by the ruling party for another term as MLC. Deshapati Srinivas and Venkatrami Reddy are new candidates.

With more than 100 members in the 119-member Assembly, all three candidates for the BRS are likely to be elected unopposed.

Poet and singer Srinivas is currently serving as an officer on special duty in the Chief Minister's Office, while Venkatrami Reddy is a former MLA from the Alampur constituency.

CM KCR asked the candidates to file nominations on March 9. He gave orders to BRS general secretary Palla Rajeshwar Reddy and state Legislative Assembly Affairs Minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy to undertake preparations in this regard.

The names of the two candidates to be nominated by the Governor will be announced after the Cabinet meeting scheduled on March 9.

Biennial elections for three MLC seats are scheduled to take place on March 23. As per the schedule announced by the Election Commission, candidates can file their nominations until March 13. The scrutiny of nominations will be done on March 14, and the deadline for withdrawal of candidature is March 16.

Earlier, Andhra Pradesh's ruling YSRCP announced candidates for 18 seats in the state Legislative Council.

As many as 11 candidates are from the backward classes while there are two from Scheduled Castes and one from Scheduled Tribe. The remaining four are from other castes.

The party has announced nine candidates for "local authorities" constituencies, including two candidates for the governor's quota and seven candidates from the MLA quota.
