On Tuesday, Telangana HC allowed schools to reopen but ordered stay on starting offline classes in govt residential schools. It also said schools can't force parents to send wards for offline classes

Hyderabad: Many schools in Hyderabad remained shut despite the state government's assent to reopen all schools, other than government residential schools, social welfare schools and tribal welfare schools with hostel facilities, from today.

On Tuesday, the Telangana High Court permitted schools in state to reopen while ordering a stay on starting offline classes in government residential schools. The court also said schools cannot compel parents to send their children to attend offline classes.

Rachakonda Lalitha, a teacher at Krishnaveni Talent School, said that the high court stay hasn't changed school's plans but students were in a dilemma. The school gave certain instructions just ahead of reopening.

"Our school planned to reopen only for class VI to X students. We had planned this way ahead of yesterday's high court stay. The school management has also sent out a message to students saying 'high court hasn't stayed physical classes for day scholars'. Yet, there is no good turnout of students as of today. There are plans to continue online classes if the student headcount remains low for the next week," Lalitha told ABP Live.

A parent of a Class II student studying in SR Digi School in Hyderabad, on the condition of anonimity, told ABP Live: "The school has already sent a circular to parents for making arrangements to send students to school from Wednesday as the government allowed reopening of educational institutions. There was not much confusion. But the school has started to function for Classes I to X. We are worried because of Covid."
