'Politically Aligned Persons': Telangana Governor Rejects Govt's Nominations To MLC, Sparks Fresh Row

Telangana Governor on Monday rejected the state government’s proposal to nominate BRS leaders Dasoju Sravan Kumar and K Satyanarayana to the Legislative Council under the Governor’s quota.

New Delhi: A fresh row has erupted after Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Monday rejected the state government’s proposal to nominate BRS leaders Dasoju Sravan Kumar and K Satyanarayana to the Legislative Council under the Governor’s quota.

In two separate letters addressed to Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and Chief Secretary A. Santhi Kumari, she said, "My earnest request to the cabinet and the Hon’ble chief minister is to avoid such politically aligned persons to fill up nominated posts under Article 171(5) of the Constitution of India, defeating its objectives and enactment and consider only genuinely eminent persons in the respective field."

Speaking on the issue, Union Minister and Telangana BJP President G Kishan Reddy said, "It's the right of the Governor. Whatever she has done is good because it is wrong to nominate MLCs who will serve BRS and the KCR family from the Governor's quota. I want to thank the Governor."
In the letter, the Raj Bhavan stated that Dasoju Sravan’s summary indicated his active participation in politics, corporate and academic sectors and did not indicate any special achievements in literature, science, art, cooperative movement and social service and that there was no apparent consideration of the fulfilment of the preconditions required under Article 171(5) of the Constitution, reported the Indian Express.

According to the report, K Satyanarayana’s rejection was also on similar grounds—the summary indicated his active participation in politics and trade union activities but no special knowledge in literature, science, art, cooperative movement and social service.

“The entire file relating to the consideration of all relevant records and the criteria required to by fulfilled by the Constitution and the note file before the Cabinet and Hon’ble Chief Minister evidencing the consideration of all the relevant records have not been enclosed along with the recommendations,” Tamilisai said, according to The Hindu.
