Hyderabad Man Assaulted, Killed In Suspected Honour Killing, Main Accused Arrested

New Delhi: In a suspected case of honour killing, a newly married couple was attacked with an iron rod while they were riding a bike, killing the man on the spot in Saroornagar area in Hyderabad on Wednesday night. According to police, the deceased man, identified as Billapuram Nagaraju and Syed Ashrin Sultana were collegemates. After their marriage in January this year, Sultana changed her name to Pallavi. Police have arrested the main accused in the case and detained other suspects, among whom are members of the woman’s family.
According to Sreedhar Reddy, ACP, Lal Bahadur Nagar, as quoted by news agency ANI, “A person was killed by two persons. The deceased was travelling on a bike with his wife. They got married recently and both belonged to different communities. Brothers of the deceased’s wife today assaulted Nagaraju and then attacked him with a rod and killed him on the spot.”

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
Meanwhile, the incident has triggered tensions in the area as Nagaraju’s relatives, along with several others, held a protest demanding the police to take immediate action in the case.
“No communal angle, this is an isolated incident. The accused was against the wedding, he killed the deceased to take revenge,” News18 quoted a police official as saying. He further added that the couple had never approached them citing threat or intimidation.
The DCP of LB Nagar, as quoted by ANI said, "Case registered under IPC Section 302, SC/ST Act. Probe to be concluded soon. We'll apply at fast track court so that its trial is concluded soon, & accused are punished. Deceased's family will be provided with monetary benefits, job."
