BRS chief and former Telangana CM K Chandrashekar Rao made his first appearance at the Telangana Assembly on Thursday since his defeat in the state Assembly Elections held last November. A pooja was also scheduled in the opposition leader's chamber in the assembly at ahead of the oath-taking ceremony.

KCR, aided by a walking stick, made his entrance into the Assembly and greeted the BRS workers gathered in front of the Vidhan Sabha.

In December, a group of senior orthopedic surgeons and other medical experts at Yashoda Hospital in Hyderabad successfully conducted surgery on Rao. According to a health bulletin released by the hospital, Rao underwent a planned left Total Hip Replacement procedure. The bulletin noted that Rao tolerated the surgery well, maintaining stable hemodynamics throughout the entire procedure.

KCR, a nine-time MLA, has a remarkable track record in the Assembly. From 1985 to 1999, he secured consecutive victories from Siddipet. Winning the 2001 by-election and the 2004 election, however, he refrained from taking the oath as a legislator due to his MP status at that time. Subsequently, he secured victories as an MLA from Gajwel in 2014, 2018, and the recent 2023 elections.

Notably, after the separation from Andhra Pradesh, KCR triumphed in the assembly elections twice in the newly formed state of Telangana. Following this, he served as Chief Minister for a decade.

Having held significant positions such as Minister, Union Minister, and Chief Minister, KCR is set to take on the role of the main opposition leader.

In December 2023, K Chandrasekhar Rao was recognised as the Leader of Opposition in the assembly.
