Zoom Unleashes AI Powerhouse With New Custom Companion, Smarter Tasks & Productivity Boosters
With this sweeping update, Zoom isn’t just adding bells and whistles — it’s transforming the workplace into an AI-augmented environment.

Zoom is supercharging its platform with a wave of next-gen AI features designed to make work not just easier, but smarter. The latest upgrades include the debut of a customisable AI assistant, smarter task management, seamless meeting scheduling, and enhanced tools for global collaboration. With this launch, Zoom is making good on its promise to lead with “agentic AI” — intelligent digital assistants that don’t just suggest, but actually do.
Your Personal Zoom Sidekick Gets Smarter
The centrepiece of this rollout is the Custom AI Companion, a powerful tool that lets organisations design AI agents tailored to their specific workflows. Built with Zoom AI Studio, this drag-and-drop builder allows IT admins to create bespoke automations using low-code tools. It’s available as a $12/month add-on, and integrations with third-party AI agents from Anthropic and Google are expected this summer.
“Last month, we announced that AI Companion now includes a set of agentic skills so it can understand, plan, and get things done with minimal input from the user. We’re further delivering on that promise by launching Custom AI Companion,” said Jeff Smith, head of Product for Workplace AI, Meetings, and Spaces at Zoom.
In addition to custom-built skills, enterprises can connect their internal data via Bring Your Own Index (BYOI). That means AI Companion can pull insights from tools like Amazon Q Business, Gmail, or customer databases, bringing critical context into any meeting or interaction in real time.
Zoom Tasks & Voice Recorder: Keeping You One Step Ahead
With Zoom Tasks, AI Companion helps users cut through the noise of daily communications. It automatically generates task lists from meeting recaps and chat threads, assigns action items, and even recommends next steps. These tasks can be managed in a centralised dashboard or embedded directly into Zoom Docs.
Whether it’s during a live meeting or a spontaneous hallway conversation, the AI Voice Recorder can now transcribe and summarise face-to-face interactions — no Zoom call required. It's rolling out to mobile soon, with Zoom Rooms support coming this summer.
“A year ago, we launched Zoom Workplace’s AI-first capabilities, transforming how users work — helping them get more done, drive better results, and strengthen their relationships at work,” Smith added.
Smarter Collaboration Across the Board
The updates extend across the Zoom ecosystem. Zoom Team Chat now uses a proprietary Small Language Model to boost multilingual translation capabilities. Users can also mention and share contacts with people not in the chat — without needing to add them.
AI Companion can also act as your meeting scheduler. It suggests ideal times based on everyone’s calendars and auto-generates meeting topics and agendas. Inside Zoom Meetings, private group chats can now be created with custom names and shared links, helping users juggle multiple threads more easily.
Other enhancements include:
-
Custom avatars in Zoom Clips that let users auto-generate AI-powered video walkthroughs with just a transcript and a likeness.
-
AI-powered summaries in Zoom Whiteboard, with new sticky notes and emoji stack tools for faster ideation.
-
Smarter inbox and voicemail handling with AI Companion in Zoom Phone, and AI-generated call summaries via the Zoom + Salesforce app.
For Sales Teams, Clinicians, and the Frontline
Sales professionals get new firepower with Zoom Revenue Accelerator, now featuring AI playbooks that execute standardised sales methodologies and analyse calls to recommend CRM updates automatically. Meanwhile, deal explorer allows reps to ask questions in plain English and receive structured insights instantly.
Zoom is also expanding its industry-specific offerings:
- Zoom Workplace for Frontline gives retail, healthcare, and manufacturing workers mobile-first tools powered by AI Companion.
- Zoom Workplace for Clinicians, developed with healthcare AI firm Suki, auto-generates clinical notes during patient visits.
With this sweeping update, Zoom isn’t just adding bells and whistles — it’s transforming the workplace into an AI-augmented environment where the tech does the heavy lifting and users stay focused on what matters most.
