WhatsApp New Features: Video Call Participant Limit Increased, Screen Sharing With Audio, Speaker Spotlight & More

WhatsApp New Features: The instant messaging platform appears to be joining the big league of Google Meet, Teams and Zoom, with the introduction of new features like screen sharing with audio.

WhatsApp has been committed to enhancing user experience for a long time now. The instant messaging platform is now rolling out a series of updates which aims to enhance the calling experience even further. This series of new updates include increasing the limit of participants in a video call, screen sharing with audio, improved audio and video quality and speaker spotlight.

Video Call Participant Limit Increased

WhatsApp is increasing the limit for the number of participants you can have in a video call. After this update, you will be able to have 32 people be on the video call at the same time. With this, you will be able to include more people in a single call, regardless of whether you are using a desktop or mobile device. It can be a solid option for virtual gatherings, meetings and online classes. However, will it be able to compete with Google Meet, Teams or Zoom, that we will have to see.

Screen Sharing With Audio

Another Google Meet-like feature that WhatsApp is bringing is screen sharing with audio feature. Want to watch a movie with your loved one who is far away from you? WhatsApp will help you now as you will be able to screen share the movie and the person on the other end will also be able to hear the audio of the video. This is set to make the experience more immersive.

Enhanced Video & Audio Quality

WhatsApp recently introduced the MLow codec which significantly improves call reliability. If we talk about mobile users, the presence of MLow codes will mean better noise and echo cancellation. So now you will be able to have clear calls even in a noisy environment.

As for video calls, it will benefit from higher resolution, the only catch is that you must have a fast internet connection. In case if you are online through an old device or have poor network connectivity even then too the overall audio quality will be clearer now.

Speaker Spotlight

Remember the WhatsApp video calls in which we had a lot of participants and we had a tough time keeping track of who was speaking when? Well yeah. that won't happen anymore. With the new speaker spotlight feature, the person who is talking will appear first on your screen automatically.

This will make it easier for users to follow conversations and it will ensure that the speaker gets the attention they deserve.
