WhatsApp's Upcoming Feature Will Let Users Edit Contacts Within The App

Meta-owned WhatsApp may soon roll out the ability to let users edit contacts within the messaging app.

Meta-owned WhatsApp may soon roll out the ability to let users edit contacts within the messaging app. According to WhatsApp beta tracker WABetaInfo, the feature is available for testing for some WhatsApp beta testers for Android. In other words, this feature will let WhatsApp users add new contacts to their Google account or contact book without leaving the messaging app.

"In the past few days, WhatsApp has released a new feature that allows users to add contacts or edit their information without having to leave the app. It’s worth noting that there already was a shortcut to add contacts, but it would redirect users to their device’s contacts app. Thanks to the latest updates of WhatsApp beta for Android, some beta testers can now easily add new contacts to their contacts list or Google account without leaving WhatsApp," WABetaInfo wrote on its page.

WABetaInfo also posted a screenshot that showed the upcoming feature will let contacts be directly added within the WhatsApp app.

"This means that users will no longer need to switch between apps. If you’re curious to discover if the feature is already available for your WhatsApp account, open your contacts list within WhatsApp and select the option “New contact”: in case the section shown in the screenshot appears, it means you can already add contacts without leaving WhatsApp. In addition, you can also add unknown numbers to your contacts list when they reach you on WhatsApp, without switching to the contacts app," WABetaInfo added.

Meanwhile, WhatsApp was recently said to be working to introduce the ability to let users edit messages even after sending them. As per the WhatsApp beta for iOS 23.6.0.74 update, a new dedicated alert is under work that will inform users when their edited message has been successfully sent to everyone in a WhatsApp conversation.

The Meta-owned messaging platform is also working on 15 new durations for disappearing messages. Currently, the platform supports three durations for disappearing messages. The new durations will be present under the "More options" menu.
