What Do Virat Kohli, Cristiano Ronaldo, & Prince William Have In Common? (& How You Can Be On The Same League Too)

From Jasprit Bumrah to Michael Phelps and from LeBron James to Patrick Mahomes, almost all elite superstars appear to have this in common.

During India's high-stakes ICC Champions Trophy clash against Pakistan, Virat Kohli's masterful 51st century wasn’t the only thing that caught fans’ attention. Many eagle-eyed viewers spotted an unusual wristband on his arm — one that lacked the usual screen associated with smartwatches or fitness bands.

This wasn’t just any accessory; it was the Whoop fitness tracker, a device that has been discreetly present on the wrists of top Indian cricket stars, including Jasprit Bumrah and even coach Rahul Dravid, for years. And it's not just cricketers, Whoop's trackers and services are popular among elite athletes across sports such as basketball, swimming, and golf.

Not Official Sponsor, Still Popular Among Athletes

Despite not being an official sponsor of the Indian cricket team, Whoop has established itself as a go-to wearable for elite athletes.

The band is designed to track real-time stress levels, recovery rates, and overall physical readiness, helping players optimise their training and performance. Unlike conventional fitness trackers, Whoop focuses on deep analytics, providing users with personalised insights into their physiological well-being.

Interestingly, Whoop’s popularity extends far beyond the cricketing world. The device has found favour with some of the biggest names in global sports, including basketball icon LeBron James, swimming legend Michael Phelps, golf greats Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, and football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo. Many of these athletes are not just users but also officially associated with the brand.

Even William, Prince of Wales, was spotted wearing a Whoop band at an event.

How Much Will It Cost You To Get A Whoop?

Founded by Will Ahmed in 2015, Whoop introduced its latest model, Whoop 4.0, in 2021, further enhancing its capabilities. The company also partnered with OpenAI to launch Whoop Coach, an AI-driven feature aimed at refining performance insights for users.

Recently, Whoop expanded its presence to India, offering its services through a 12-month and 24-month membership plan priced at Rs 19,598 and Rs 33,308.52, respectively. The membership includes a Whoop 4.0 device with a lifetime warranty and access to its exclusive app, which offers in-depth analytics on recovery, strain, and sleep patterns.

A major boost for the brand came on May 13, 2024, when football legend Cristiano Ronaldo joined Whoop as both an investor and global ambassador. This move places him alongside other high-profile athletes like Patrick Mahomes, Eli Manning, and McIlroy, reinforcing Whoop’s status as a trusted performance tool in elite sports.

Whoop has also expanded its market reach, now operating in several Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE, Kuwait, and Bahrain, along with Hong Kong, Israel, Korea, and Taiwan. As more top athletes turn to Whoop for an edge in their game, its influence in the fitness tech industry continues to grow.
