Telegram Brings Mini Apps 2.0: Here's How It Can Improve Your Experience

Telegram's latest update also includes geolocation access, which enables mini apps to request location data, enhancing location-based games and services.

Telegram has rolled out a major update to its mini app ecosystem, introducing the "Mini Apps 2.0" version on November 20. This update promises to significantly improve the user experience with several new features aimed at enhancing functionality and flexibility.

Telegram Mini Apps 2.0: Top New Features

Among the key additions is full-screen support, which now allows mini apps to seamlessly switch between landscape and portrait modes, offering a more immersive viewing experience. This is particularly beneficial for apps requiring complex gestures, such as games, where users can now enjoy better control.

Another major update is device motion tracking, enabling mini apps to track and respond to device movements. This is especially useful for gaming apps, where users can rotate their screens even when locked. Additionally, this feature paves the way for a potential virtual reality (VR) experience within the platform.

Telegram has also introduced home screen shortcuts, allowing users to easily place their favourite mini apps for quick access, streamlining the overall user experience.

The update also includes geolocation access, which enables mini apps to request location data, enhancing location-based games and services. Telegram assures users that they have full control over their privacy and location data, with apps only able to access this information once permission is granted.

Developers can now monetise their mini apps by offering subscription plans. This allows users to unlock premium features, content, and even enjoy benefits such as rewards and extended messaging limits, all through Telegram’s Stars system.

In addition to these enhancements, Telegram mini apps can now generate downloadable documents, share media, send gifts, and share emojis as statuses within the app. For more personalised experiences, users can also customise loading screens via the @BotFather tool.

Other notable improvements include better access to basic hardware information, such as processing power and memory capacity, allowing apps to adjust settings for smoother performance across various devices.
