Samsung Tipped To Introduce One UI 6.1.1 Update With New Video AI Feature For Galaxy Smartphones
With the addition of generative AI photo editing features in the Galaxy S24 series, Samsung has set a precedent for AI-enhanced editing tools.
Samsung might possibly be planning to unveil a new artificial intelligence (AI) feature by the end of 2024. A tipster disclosed that the South Korean smartphone maker might be looking to introduce a feature called Video AI as a part of the upcoming update One UI 6.1.1. This feature is expected to join the company's existing suite of Galaxy AI features, which presently includes functionalities like Circle to Search, Live Translation, Interpreter, and much more. These features were introduced back in January and now the new features are in the line to arrive in the handsets.
Notably, Google and Samsung have been collaborating to develop innovative AI features for the Android platform. As per information shared by Ice Universe on X (formerly Twitter), Samsung is actively developing a Video AI feature slated to debut with the One UI 6.1.1 update. The unveiling is anticipated to take place during the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event, where Samsung is also expected to launch the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6. While specific details about the functionality of Video AI remain under wraps, the name suggests potential applications for speculation.

With the recent inclusion of generative AI photo editing features in the Galaxy S24 series, enabling users to manipulate images by resising, removing, or repositioning elements, Samsung has set a precedent for AI-enhanced editing tools. However, similar capabilities for video editing have yet to be introduced. Video AI could imply AI-driven editing functionalities that mirror those found in photo editing, albeit tailored for videos. Another potential avenue could involve AI-powered text-to-video generation, although this remains less likely due to the technology's early stages, with companies like OpenAI still refining models such as Sora.
These are mere speculations, and if such a feature is truly being developed, specifics will only come to light at the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event, rumoured to take place in July. Presently, users of Samsung devices equipped with Galaxy AI capabilities can leverage functionalities like Circle to Search for rapid visual searches, Chat Assist for enhanced text messages, and Note Assist within the Notes app for text summarisation, translation, and formatting, among other features.
