New Delhi: Seven teenagers have been arrested for their connection with a hacking group named Lapsus$ which recently targeted tech companies like Okta, Samsung, and Nvidia among others. A 16-year-old boy is said to be the mastermind of the cybercrime gang Lapsus$ and has amassed a whopping $14 million fortune from hacking, the media has reported.

Police in Britain has arrested seven people in connection with the Lapsus$ hacking group. City of London Police says they have arrested seven teenagers in relation to the gang but will not say if he is one, according to BBC News. The boy's father was quoted as saying in the report that his family was concerned and was trying to keep him away from his computers.

The hacking group has claimed responsibility for some of the major security breaches at big tech firms that include Okta, Nvidia, Samsung, Ubisoft and Microsoft.

“The City of London Police has been conducting an investigation with its partners into members of a hacking group," Detective Inspector Michael Sullivan said in an emailed statement in response to a question about the Lapsus$ hacking group.

“Seven people between the ages of 16 and 21 have been arrested in connection with this investigation and have all been released under investigation," Sullivan said.

Access management company Okta which provides authentication services to firms like Fedex, Sonos, Moody's and T-Mobile among others is the latest victim of Lapsus$ and confirmed that a member from Lapsus$ hacking group had access to one of its employee's laptops in January and that some of its customers may have been hit by the breach. This disclosure comes after hacking group Lapsus$ published a series of posts on Telegram mentioning it was one of Okta's Slack channels.
