Smartphone Market In India Will Reportedly Surpass $50 Billion Valuation This Year, Counterpoint Research Reveals

According to Counterpoint Research's report, the retail average selling price (ASP) of smartphones in India is expected to cross the $300 (around Rs 26,000) mark for the first time in 2025.

India's smartphone market is poised to surpass the $50 billion (approximately Rs. 4.2 lakh crore) milestone in 2025, marking its highest-ever valuation, according to a market research firm. This growth is largely attributed to a value-driven strategy by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and an increasing consumer inclination towards premium devices with advanced specifications. The market is projected to experience a 6 per cent year-on-year (YoY) growth.

Indian Smartphone Market In 2025: How Will The Year Look Like?

As revealed in the India Smartphone Outlook report by Counterpoint Research, the retail average selling price (ASP) of smartphones in India is expected to cross the $300 (around Rs 26,000) mark for the first time in 2025. This significant shift will contribute to the market's overall valuation reaching $50.3 billion (around Rs 4.3 lakh crore). The market was valued at $37.9 billion (around Rs 3.2 lakh crore) in 2021, reflecting a notable surge in smartphone demand.

The report highlights a growing preference among consumers for premium smartphones, particularly in the over-Rs 30,000 and ultra-premium categories, with brands like Apple and Samsung leading the charge. Apple is anticipated to see strong demand for its Pro models, driven by local manufacturing and reduced costs. Samsung's strategy, focused on delivering value, is also expected to boost sales, particularly for its flagship Galaxy S series.

The analysis suggests that OnePlus is looking to expand its presence in the ultra-premium segment (above Rs 45,000) with the upcoming release of the OnePlus 13 on January 7. The China-based brand has also taken steps to address concerns surrounding green line display issues, which had impacted its performance earlier this year. To mitigate these concerns, OnePlus now offers a lifetime warranty, providing customers with peace of mind.

Meanwhile, brands like OnePlus, Oppo, and Vivo, which cater to the affordable category (Rs 30,000-Rs 45,000), are reportedly attracting buyers with advanced camera features and sleek designs. In contrast, the premium segment is anticipated to surpass a 20 per cent market share by 2025.
