Clubhouse Rolling Out Live Captions For iOS Users

The real-time closed captioning feature on Clubhouse is something Twitter Spaces was already offering and this is likely to make Clubhouse better for those who are hard of hearing or deaf.

New Delhi: Social audio chat app Clubhouse is bringing live captions for iOS users, the company has announced. The real-time closed captioning feature is something Twitter Spaces was already offering and this feature is likely to make Clubhouse better for those who are hard of hearing or deaf. There is no word on when the feature will be available for Android users.

"closed captioning is here for iOS! update your app now to see it in action in live rooms. here's a lil' example, in case you need convincing...," Clubhouse tweeted from its official handle late on Thursday.

Clubhouse was quoted as saying by TechCrunch that the feature currently supports 13 languages, including English, Japanese, Korean, Cantonese, French, German, Mandarin and Russian.

It should be noted that Clubhouse has introduced a lot of nifty features in the past few weeks, including Wave that makes it easier to start a conversation with a friend, replays for asynchronous listening and recorded rooms.

Earlier this month, Clubhouse also added support for five Indian languages on Android including Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu, in a bid to take on its growing rivals in the space. The additional languages added are currently for Android and a roll-out for iOS devices is expected soon and it is being seen as a big step towards the Andreessen Horowitz-backed company's localisation efforts.

The app also added support for languages like French, German, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Italian, Portuguese (Brazilian) and Spanish while announcing its new app icon that features musician, singer and songwriter Anirudh Deshmukh.
