AI Systems Need To Be Safe Before Public Release: US Prez Joe Biden

Biden added that AI risks to national security and the economy must be addressed.

Artificial intelligence (AI) may have a great impact on today’s world but people should also focus on the risks that come with it. AI systems can be vulnerable to cyberattacks, where malicious actors exploit vulnerabilities to manipulate the system or gain unauthorised access to sensitive data. Securing AI technologies and ensuring robust cybersecurity is a must to avoid any kind of security breach and risks.

US President Joe Biden expressed his thoughts regarding the issue during a meeting in San Francisco, California, on June 20. He said that there is a need to keep track of the different AI technologies before launching them to the public. National security is primary and most important as it is also responsible for the citizen in it.

"My administration is committed to safeguarding Americans' rights and safety while protecting privacy, to addressing bias and misinformation, to making sure AI systems are safe before they are released," Biden said, adding that he has made up his mind to talk to the experts regarding the matter for a better understanding.

Biden had previously met with the Microsoft and Google CEOs regarding the dangers and concerns around AI at the White House, which caught the attention of governments and lawmakers globally.

After the launch of OpenAI's ChatGPT, there has been a wide level of excitement among people, researchers, technologists, and AI enthusiasts. The availability of powerful generative AI tools like ChatGPT has opened up new possibilities for innovation. It has inspired developers and entrepreneurs to explore novel applications and create AI-driven solutions in customer service, virtual assistants, content generation, and more areas. This is a concerning matter for the governments of several nations to provide a secure passage so that people can access AI.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is also talking about these issues and plans to hold a global summit on the safety of AI.
