'Late DMDK Chief Vijayakanth Raised Sri Lankan Tamil Issues At Various Platforms': SL Minister Jeevan Thondaman

Sri Lankan Minister Jeevan Thondaman emphasized that Vijayakanth consistently raised concerns related to Sri Lankan Tamils on various platforms.

Sri Lankan Minister Jeevan Thondaman visited the residence of late actor and DMDK chief Vijayakanth in Chennai and paid his respects on Wednesday. Following the homage, Thondaman fondly recalled Vijayakanth as a leader characterized by unwavering commitment and without any bias politics. He emphasized that Vijayakanth consistently raised concerns related to Sri Lankan Tamils on various platforms.

On late actor and DMDK chief Vijayakanth, Sri Lankan minister Jeevan Thondaman said, "I have come here to pay my respects to late Captain Vijayakanth. I think what must be acknowledged is the fact that he was a leader with commitment, without any biased political beliefs."

"I think as a human being, he has impacted many people's lives. As far as Sri Lanka and its relationship with the late Vijayakanth goes...he had always constantly brought up their (Sri Lankan Tamils) issues in various different stages," he said.

Actor Vijayakanth passed away due to pneumonia at a private hospital in Chennai on December 28.  He was 71 years old.

Several leaders, including AIADMK chief Edappadi Palaniswami, DMK Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, and MP Thol Thirumavalavan, paid their respects at the party office. On Thursday, actors such as Vijay, Vijayakumar, Mansoor Ali Khan, and director Mari Selvaraj also paid their tributes. Thousands of actor-politician's fans paid their last respect to his remains at Island Grounds in Chennai. 

The DMDK supremo was then laid to rest within the confines of the party office.
