TNPSC Chairman Appointment: DMK Demands Explanation From Governor RN Ravi For Returning Files
Earlier, the Governor returned the files seeking further details on how the candidates were selected and whether guidelines were followed as laid down by the Supreme Court.
Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) demanded Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi to provide an explanation for returning the files on the appointment of a chairman for Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) on Tuesday. The party also claimed that the action of the Governor was unnecessary. On Monday, Governor RN Ravi returned the files sent by DMK government recommending the name of former DGP Sylendra Babu for the post of TNPSC Chairman and eight others as members. The Governor also sought further details on how the candidates were selected and whether guidelines were followed as laid down by the Supreme Court.
Reacting to the development, DMK organising secretary RS Bharathi said that the state government recommended the name of Sylendra Babu, a retired IPS officer who previously served as Director General of Police, after taking into account his "unblemished record" after due consideration. However, the Governor refused to clear the file, RS Bharathi said, as per PTI.
Additionally, he said that the government chose this "honest former IPS official" in an effort to uphold social justice in the spirit of the late Chief Minister M Karunanidhi. Bharathi told reporters in Chennai that Ravi needed to justify his action for not giving his approval.
He alleged that the Governor had politicised the matter and criticised Ravi's claim that the state universities were not required to adhere to the common curriculum established by the Tamil Nadu State Council for Higher Education (TANSCHE).
RN Ravi's stint as Tamil Nadu governor has been marred by clashes with the MK Stalin-led DMK administration. His refusal to provide consent to the anti-NEET (National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test) has created tensions. Meanwhile, Udhayanidhi Stalin called Governor RN Ravi as "RSS" Ravi during the protest held by DMK on Sunday.
