TN Budget | Petrol Sales Gone Up By 11.21 Lakh Litres Per Day After Slashing Rs 3, Claims Tamil Nadu FinMin

Tamil Nadu Finance Minister PTR Palanivel Thiagarajan on August 13 announced that tax levied on petrol will be reduced by Rs 3 and it came into effect from the next day

Chennai: On first day of the Tamil Nadu Budget, slashing of state tax of Rs 3 on petrol has been one of the major decisions by the state government when commuters across the country are having a harrowing time due to the spike in fuel prices to an unprecendented extent. The slashing of the state tax on petrol has directly reflected on the price by Rs 3.

With this slashing, there is an immediate impact on the revenue according to Tamil Nadu Finance Minister PTR Palanivel Thiaga Rajan as the petrol sale has gone up by 11.21 lakh litres per day in the state.

Ahead of the Tamil Nadu elections, CM MK Stalin promised during the campaign that petrol and diesel prices would be reduced once the DMK comes to power and forms a government in Tamil Nadu. Albeit the DMK government said on the first day of the Tamil Nadu budget that the promises made in the election manifesto would be eventually implemented.

The DMK government in the election manifesto has promised to reduced the price of petrol by Rs 5 and slash diesel price by Rs 4. Taking baby steps towards fulfilling their promises, Tamil Nadu Finance Minister PTR Palanivel Thiaga Rajan on August 13 on the first day of the Tamil Nadu budget announced that tax levied on petrol will be reduced by Rs 3 and it came into effect from the next day.
