Tamil Nadu: Three Students Fall Sick After Having Shawarma, Hospitalised In Thanjavur GH

Tamil Nadu Shawarma Poisoning: Based on the information, Orathanadu police have also registered a case against the shop owner.

Chennai: Three students were hospitalised due to food poisoning after consuming shawarma at Orthanadu in Thanjavur on Friday. The health condition of the students, who belong to Veterinary College in Orathanadu, is said to be stable. 

According to a report on ABP Nadu, the students of Veterinary College in Orathanadu joined back in college after the holidays on Thursday. As a result, three students identified as Praveen from Kanyakumari, Parimaleswaran from Pudukottai and Manikandan from Dharmapuri instead of having food at the hostel canteen went to a nearby fast food joint. 

In the fast food centre, the students had chicken shawarma and returned back to the hostel. However, within minutes, the students developed health issues including vomiting. The students soon informed the college authorities and were rushed to Orathanadu Government Hospital for treatment.

Later, Orathanadu GH referred the students to Thanjavur Government Hospital for further treatment, the report said.

Based on the information, Orathanadu police have also registered a case.

Three students have fallen ill in the state on the same day Food Safety officers had been conducting raids and seizing rotten food items at eateries in the wake of the death of a 16-year-old in Kerala due to food poisoning. 

On Thursday, Food Safety team raided several shops in Madurai and seized 10 kg of stale chicken from five shops. The team has also sought a reply from the eatery for possessing stale chicken.
