Tamil Nadu: Nellaiappar Temple's Three Gates To Open After 17 Yrs For Devotees

Three entrances of Arulmigu Nellaiappar temple in Tirunelveli soon to open for public after having been closed for 17 years.

Tirunelveli: Three entrances closed for 17 years to Nellaiappar temple to be opened shortly having its maintenance work done. Hindu religious and charitable endowments minister P K Sekhar Babu said after inspecting the temple in the city yesterday (July 7).

Speaking to TOI, he said that the district and state committees have sent recommendations regarding the renovation of temple mandapam to archaeology department.

He said that renovation of the mandapam to be carried out after the consultations with officials of the department. The renovation work will also add the pond situated near the mandapam.

The HR and CE minister said that steps would be taken to ensure that rainwater reaches the temple pond and encroachments if any are removed.

According to Sekhar Babu, the silver temple which in bad shape for 30 years now will also be renovated taking the required steps.

Basic facilities to the devotees will also be ensured taking necessary steps, the minister. 

"The HR and CE department is working with an objective to protect temples and their properties across the state. Steps would also be taken to fill up vacancies in the temples" he added.
