Tamil Nadu MPs Meet Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy To Seek His Support In Opposing NEET

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Members of Parliament, including North Chennai Lok Sabha Member Kalanidhi Veeraswami and Rajya Sabha Member TKS Elangovan met Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in Amaravati on Monday to sought his support for opposing National Entrance Cum Eligibility Test (NEET) led by Tamil Nadu government.

According to a report on IANS, the delegation met Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and handed over a letter written by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin. In the letter, Stalin said that NEET was against federalism and sought the support of AP CM against the NEET. The CM also said that NEET was undermining the rights of the states.

In September 2021, Stalin wrote to the Chief Ministers of 12 states ruled by non-BJP governments seeking their support against NEET and to push for state rights.

Stalin wrote to Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Kerala, Maharashtra, Delhi, Odisha, Jharkhand, Punjab, Telangana, West Bengal, Rajasthan and Goa seeking their support and to uphold the rights of students from underprivileged backgrounds. He also instructed DMK MPs to meet his counterparts of 12 states and convince them regarding the same.

The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin vowed to cancel admission of medical aspirants to MBBS through NEET after several students from Tamil Nadu killed themselves. The government also formed a high-level committee under retired Justice AK Rajan to study the impact of NEET on students. The report which was recently made public said that if NEET continues then the healthcare system would be badly affected and that NEET favours only the urban, affluent and educated families.
