Tamil Nadu: Judo Player's Foot Amputated After Electric Pole Falls On Him
Vigneshwaran said that the accident crashed his dream completely and it occurred at a time when he was preparing for another national judo event.
A 17-year-old judo player lost his leg and was amputated after an electric pole which was being replaced by Tamil Nadu Electricity Board fell off a crane and fell on his leg. The incident took place while the first-year engineering student was walking back home from a private college in Coimbatore.
According to a report on Times of India, Pirathi Vigneshwaran is a student of first-year engineering at a private college in Coimbatore. On Wednesday, he was walking back home after college with his friend at Kochadai, while he was crossing the spot near where TNEB workers were fixing an electric pole, the pole suddenly came off the hook and crushed his leg. Vigneshwaran was saved since he also moved swiftly to escape from the pole, however, his leg got caught.
Vigneshwaran's friend immediately took him to Government Rajaji Hospital. While providing treatment, the doctors were forced to amputate his foot.
Talking to India Today, Vigneshwaran said that he saved his life since he moved from the spot after noticing the crashing object.
Both Vigneshwaran and his physically disabled mother claimed that TNEB representatives failed to take any safety measures when replacing the electric pole. They claimed that there was no cordon surrounding the building site.
Vigneshwaran said that the incident crashed his dream completely and it occurred at a time when he was preparing for another national judo event.
He also said that the mishap shattered his dream of becoming a police officer.
Further, Vigneshwaran and his mother demanded the government provide Vigneshwaran with a job in state-run departments or compensation.
Vigneshwaran's mother also registered a complaint with the police in the matter. Based on the complaint, the police have started the probe. Further investigations are on.
