Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian Confirms Complete Lockdown On Sundays In State

The announcement comes after Tamil Nadu records a whopping 2,731 COVID-19 cases on Tuesday.

Chennai: Tamil Nadu government on Wednesday announced a lockdown on Sundays to curb the spread of novel coronavirus and Omicron threats in the state. The state government is likely to impose additional lockdown through an official press release soon. 

In separate announcements, the Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian said, "Since Sundays are likely going to be a full lockdown, the mega vaccination camp will be held on Saturdays."

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker Appavu announced that the sessions would end in two days on Friday. The Assembly session commenced on Wednesday with a maiden address of Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi. In the session that took place in Kalaivanar Arangam, the VCK and AIADMK members staged a walkout due to different reasons. 

The VCK staged a walkout due to the inaction of Tamil Nadu Governor Ravi over the NEET Bill passed in TN Assembly while AIADMK walked out citing law and order issues and closure of Amma mini-clinics in the state. 

The announcement comes after Tamil Nadu records a huge spike of 2,731 Covid cases on Tuesday. The highest of the tally was from Chennai with 1,489 patients testing positive for the virus. The tally jumped from 1,728 cases on Monday.

With the new cases, Tamil Nadu has 12,412 active cases in the state. After Chennai, Chengalpattu recorded 290 cases followed by Tiruvallur with 147 cases and Coimbatore with 129 cases.
