Chennai: Amid lockdowns and the surge in temperatures as the summer peaks, stray animals were frayed. While people are busy in saving their own lives, Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit stood tall for the welfare of animals. Purohit donated ₹10 lakh to the Tamil Nadu Animal Welfare Board CSR fund to feed stray animals during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Raj Bhavan said.
Days after donating ₹1 Crore to the CM Covid Relief Fund In Tamil Nadu, Purohit gave ₹10 lakh for feeding the stray. He donated the sum from his Discretionary grant, a Raj Bhavan release said.
Purohit took note of news reports in dailies for fund crunch to feed stray animals during the lockdown and donated ₹10 lakh from his Discretionary grant to Tamil Nadu Animal welfare Board CSR fund to feed the stray animals during the COVID-19 Pandemic, it said.
The governor handed over a cheque to TS Jawahar, Additional Chief Secretary, Animal Husbandry, Dairying, and Fisheries Department. The Governor has also appealed to the people of Tamil Nadu and NGOs to look into the welfare of stray animals, the release stated.
The Governor requested the people of Tamil Nadu to abide by guidelines and wear masks, keep a safe distance and take the vaccination, the release added.
