Rail Service Hit As Goods Train Derails In TN, Work Underway To Clear Tracks
More than five coaches a goods train derailed in Tamil Nadu on Sunday night.
A goods train coming towards Chennai Harbour derailed near Chengalpattu in Tamil Nadu on Sunday night at around 10:30 pm, said the railway officials, reported news agency ANI. More than 5 coaches of the freight rail derailed which affected passenger movement, the officials said, adding that work was underway to clear the tracks.
“Goods train coming towards Chennai Harbour carrying iron-related rods derailed near Chengalpattu last night around 10.30 pm. More than 5 coaches of the train derailed,” said Chengalpattu Railway Officials.
“The movement of passenger trains from South Tamil Nadu towards Chennai has been affected. Railway Officials are working to clear the track and regulate the train movements,” the officials added.
On Sunday, seven loaded wagons of a goods train derailed between Kasara, more than 100 kilometres from Mumbai, and TGR-3 station on the Central Railway network, said an official, according to news agency PTI.

The train was derailed at 6:31 pm affecting mail express traffic on the Kasara-Igatpuri section on the Down line and middle line, he added.
Taking to X, Central Railway chief public relations officer (CPRO) Shivraj Manaspure said: "There is derailment of a goods train between Kasara to TGR-3 DOWN line section at 18.31 hrs, on Down Main line. Goods train- JNPT/DLIB Container train. 2 wagons derailed. Mail express traffic in Kasara to Igatpuri section DOWN section is affected. And middle line is affected. Suburban local train traffic is not affected.”
The CPRO said that the Igatpuri to Kasara UP section traffic was not affected due to the derailment while the Kalyan station road ART (accident relief train) and Igatpuri station rail ART (accident relief train) have been moved to the accident site.
