Tamil Nadu: DVAC Raids 57 Places Linked To Ex-Minister & AIADMK Leader KP Anbalagan, DA Case Filed

The DVAC has named the former Minister's wife, his two sons and daughter-in-law in the FIR.

Chennai: The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) on Thursday started to raid 57 places linked to AIADMK leader and former Education Minister KP Anbalagan and his kin for having disproportionate assets to his known source of income.

The DVAC also slapped a case against Anbalagan, his wife Malliga, sons Sasi Mohan and Chandra Mohan, and daughter-in-law Vaishnavee Chandramohan on Wednesday. 

He is the sixth former AIADMK Minister to be raided by DVAC after DMK took power.

According to the FIR assessed by ABP Live, it said, "KP Anbalagan during the period from April 27, 2016, to March 15, 2021, as the tenure of Minister for Higher Education Department acquired and was in possession of immovable and movable assets in his name and in the name of his family members, relatives and others which are disproportionate to his known sources of income."

The former Minister was elected five times as MLA from Palacode Constituency since 2001. He also held the charge of Minister for Municipal Administration, Rural Development, and Minister of Information of State between 2001 and 2006. He also held the post of Higher Education Minister from 2016 to 2021.

As per the affidavits filed by the Minister in 2016 and 2021 for the Assembly elections, the Minister and his family as of April 2016 had Rs 1,60,50,859 while had Rs 21,43,35,418 by March 2021, the FIR said.

Further, the FIR said, "KP Anbalagan, had the likely savings about Rs. 10,10,39,663/- during the check period i.e., between 27.04.2016 and 15.03.2021, and hence the pecuniary resources and properties acquired by him and his family should not have exceeded Rs 10,10,39,663/- during the check period.”

“However, he has acquired assets worth Rs 11,32,95,755 more than his total income, which is disproportionate to the known sources of income," it said.

The FIR also said further information revealed that the former Minister runs a Hot Mix Plant and Rough Stone Quarry in Dharmapuri district in the name of his son-in-law and brother-in-law. The brother-in-law Senthilkumar also runs a stone crusher with an M-sand unit in Dharmapuri in the name of his close associate P Anuraj. The former Minister also runs a granite factory in the name of sister's daughter and her son-in-law, it said.

Therefore, the DVAC registered a case under sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
