Ahead of joining BJP, Vijayadharani tendered her resignation. In the letter to Congress chief, she said, "I hereby tender my resignation from the Party's primary membership and related posts held by me in the Party for personal reasons. Kindly accept the same."

Vijayadharani also served as the Chief Whip of the Congress in the Assembly and Member of the Privilege Committee for 10 years.
