Tamil Nadu: Cabbie Kills Passenger In Fight Over OTP

The argument started after the family members allegedly rushed into the vehicle without telling the OTP to the driver.

Chennai: A cab driver hit his passenger with a phone and pushed him to his death over an argument related to one-time password (OTP) on Old Mahabalipuram Road in Chennai on Sunday. The incident took place in front of the family members of the deceased person.

According to a report on New Indian Express, the deceased H Umendar (34), a resident of Guduvancherry, was a software developer working in Coimbatore. He and his wife Bhavya, their two children, Bhavya's sister and her children reportedly decided to go to a mall in Navalur to watch a movie at 3.30 pm on Sunday.

Inspector A Govindharaj said, Bhavya booked the cab from her account and the vehicle arrived at her place. The family members allegedly rushed into the vehicle without telling the OTP to the driver.

The cab driver N Ravi from Salem immediately got angered over the family entering the vehicle without confirming the OTP. He then allegedly asked them to get out of the vehicle. The family following his command got out of the car but Umendar reportedly slammed the vehicle door.

In a fit of rage, Ravi got out of the vehicle and picked up an argument. He told Umendar that they should have booked a SUV car since they were seven people, said the police.

However, the argument intensified and Ravi suddenly took his phone and hit the head of Umendar. Ravi then punched him multiple times until he fell to the ground.

Umendar was immediately taken to the nearby hospital but doctors declared him dead, as per the report.

Meanwhile, the onlookers immediately caught Ravi, who tried to flee. They then handed him over to the police.

The Kelambakkam police have registered a case under murder charges and the investigation is on.
