Tamil Nadu: 13-Year-Old Girl Attempts Suicide After Teacher Molests Her In Vellore

The Class 7 girl took the extreme step after her parents refused to take her complain that the teacher was touching her inappropriately.

Chennai: A 13-year-old student attempted suicide allegedly after a teacher molested her in her school in Vellore. Based on the complaint of the family, the police arrested the teacher D Muralikrishnan (55). 

According to a report on Times of India, the girl is currently undergoing treatment and her condition is also said to be stable. 

The Class 7 girl took the extreme step after her parents refused to take her complain that the teacher was touching her inappropriately. Her parents even reportedly said that the teacher was aged enough to be her grandfather so he would not have done that with a bad intention. 

However, Pallikonda inspector and investigation officer M Subbulakshmi who took the statement from the girl said, the teacher had been touching her inappropriately for several times in the past even after the girl told him not to do it. 

Later, she informed the parents but since they did not take the issue seriously she decided to end her life. 

On Saturday, when no one was around in the house she attempted suicide and was found unconscious by her parents, the police said. 

Following this, they rushed her to the hospital and then lodged a complaint at Thiruvalam police station. The police booked a case under sections 7 (sexual assault), 8 (punishment for sexual assault), 9 (aggravated sexual assault) and 10 (punishment for aggravated sexual assault) in POCSO Act and cases have also been booked under IPC and Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Woman Act.

The arrested person has been remanded to judicial custody.
