'Shouldn't Become Like Kamal Hassan': AIADMK Leader On Vijay's Entry Into Tamil Nadu Politics

AIADMK leader Sellur K Raju on Sunday said that his party is not worried about Vijay's party cutting down its vote share.

After South actor Thalapathy Vijay's announcement of entering into politics in Tamil Nadu and launching his political party, Former AIADMK Minister Sellur K Raju on Sunday said that his party is not worried about Vijay's party cutting down its vote share, news agency ANI reported. Taking a jibe at Kamal Nath, Raju stated: "Vijay should be careful, he shouldn't become like Kamal Haasan. Kamal Haasan entered politics saying he was going to reform the country but now he is hanging on to a party for an MP ticket."

On the question about whether Vijay's party will support AIADMK in 2026 state assembly elections, Raju said: "In 2011, actor Vijay supported the AIADMK alliance. Why will he not support us during the 2026 elections? People's moods can change with time...AIADMK's vote bank won't be affected by actor Vijay's entry into politics."

Meanwhile on Saturday, AIADMK leader Kovai Sathyan attributed the development to the BJP's "desperation" to get a face in the film industry in order to broaden its electoral base in the southern state. Kovai Sathyan further claimed that the BJP attempted to pull Rajinikanth into politics but failed, therefore it is now attempting to lure Vijay again.

"The cat is out of the bag finally; actor Vijay had political aspirations a decade ago and what's happening right now in Tamil Nadu is after our leader announced the termination of alliance with BJP for Lok Sabha as well as for the forthcoming assembly (elections), now the desperate attempt of BJP is coming to the front," he was quoted by ANI in its report.

Actor Vijay has named his party Tamil Nadu Vetri Kazhagam. Vijay supporters praised his move by giving sweets near the Rameswaram Municipality.

On February 2, actor Vijay named the People's Movement a political party, namely the Tamil Nadu Victory League.
