Sasikala Hints At Political Comeback, AIADMK Says 'May Win Oscar For Acting, But No Place In Party'

Sasikala reportedly entered the Jayalalithaa memorial in a vehicle with an AIADMK flag on it

Chennai: Former All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) interim general secretary and late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa's close aide, VK Sasikala's emotional tribute at Jayalalithaa's Memorial on Saturday was reportedly believed to be her bid to reclaim AIADMK chair. But, the AIADMK top brass debunked the rumours by saying Sasikala's acting skills might fetch her an Oscar but not a position in the party.

Taking to Twitter, The AIADMK said: "Sasikala will never get a place in AIADMK, even if she acts to the extent of getting an Oscar award since people will not believe her. How is it right to say that the AIADMK which has the strength of an elephant is just dependent on a mosquito?"

According to a report in the Times Of India, Sasikala entered the memorial in a vehicle with an AIADMK flag on it. Supporters welcomed her with hoopla. In a video, she was seen weeping continuously amidsts boisterous chants and bustling crowd while paying floral tributes to Jayalalithaa's memorial.

This is the first time Sasikala has visited Jayalalithaa's memorial after being released from jail early this year. Reportedly several quarters believe this move could be a door for Sasikala's re-entry into politics after she has declared to quit from public life ahead of the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections.

After a series of audio leaks -- earlier this year after she was released from jail -- of Sasikala talking to party cadres has grown the anticipation among the 'Chinnamma' -- as Saskiala is fondly called -- supporters about her re-entry. However, AIADMK's leadership group reiterated that the doors aren't open for Sasikala to take a place and they denied the party's dependency on her.

In 2017, hours before being taken into custody for a disproportionate asset case, Sasikala took a vow by thumping her palm at the Jayalalithaa's grave. She was repealed as general secretary from the party ahead of going to jail.
