One Nation, One Election: TN Parties At Loggerheads As DMK Opposes And AIADMK Supports Move
Tamil Nadu CM Stalin said that it was time to end the uniformity imposed by the BJP.
Tamil Nadu parties are at loggerheads over the Centre's move to form a committee to examine the idea of holding Lok Sabha and state assembly elections simultaneously in the country. The DMK opposed the move while the principal Opposition party in Tamil Nadu, AIADMK supported the Centre's pitch. Addressing reporters in Mumbai after INDIA alliance meeting, CM Stalin said that it was time to end the uniformity imposed by BJP in everything like one nation one tax, one nation one language, one nation one culture, one nation one food, one nation one education policy and so on, according to Times of India.
He said that parties from Kanyakumari to Kashi entered the fray to save India.
Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, DMK Spokesperson Saravanan Annadurai said, "One nation, one election is against the interests of the country."
This is not the first time DMK opposed 'One Nation and One Election' formula.
AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi Palaniswami said, "AIADMK strongly advocates Elections for the Lok Sabha and state assemblies be held simultaneously. As it will escalate the speed of our country’s development and avoid political instability."
"Simultaneous elections will save time, colossal cost and give longer uninterrupted period of governance to implement policies effectively for any elected government both federal & state. The process will strengthen our federalism setup, which might lead to better voter’s turnout and democratic participation."
AIADMK is an ally of BJP.
