Madurai Medical College Dean, Removed Over Charak Shapath Oath, Reinstated
Rathinavel was reinstated after he reportedly offered an explanation to the Health Minister regarding the matter.
Chennai: Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian informed the state Assembly that Rathinavel, Dean of Madurai Medical College, will be reinstated on Wednesday. Rathinavel was removed from his post on May 2 after a video of first-year students from the college taking Charak Shapath instead of Hippocratic Oath went viral on social media.
According to a report on The Quint, Rathinavel reportedly offered an explanation to the Health Minister regarding the matter following which he was reinstated to his post.
On Tuesday, Director of Medical Education in Tamil Nadu Narayana Babu also conducted an inquiry and said that Madurai Medical College violated two instructions in medical oath row of fresh MBBS students.

Speaking to reporters after conducting an inquiry at the Madurai Medical College, Narayana Babu said, "The Madurai Medical College violated two instructions regarding administering oath to the freshers. It violated instructions from the state health department and the Director of Medical Education (DME) to get clarification on any new/fake circular from the department and to follow a routine process of admission issued in February."
The official said that the recommendation by the National Medical Commission to use 'Charak Shapath' while administering oath to medical students was only a circular, and not an order.
