Kerala's Left Front Backed by TN CM Stalin To Protest Centre's Fund Allocation In Delhi Today

The DMK also held a protest led by senior leader TR Baalu near Gandhi statue in the Parliament complex.

The Left Front in Kerala and DMK in Tamil Nadu are set to hold separate protests in Delhi against the Centre over 'partiality' on the allocation of funds to their states on Thursday. The Left Front protest to be led by Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan will begin at 11 AM and has the support of TN CM. The DMK protest led by senior leader TR Baalu was conducted near Gandhi statue in the Parliament complex.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced that Left front ministers, legislators, and parliamentarians will commence a protest at 11 am on Thursday. Alleging discrimination by the Centre towards Kerala, Vijayan stated that financial difficulties have forced the state onto the path of protest. Further, he highlighted concerns over 'weakened' cooperative federalism.

LDF convenor EP Jayarajan told ANI, "We are raising the people's demands...Yesterday it was Karnataka, today it is Kerala, tomorrow other states will also come..."

DMK Organises Protest Over Fund Allocation In Interim Budget

DMK's senior leader T R Baalu also lead a 'black shirt' demonstration near the Gandhi statue in the Parliament complex to protest against the Centre's alleged failure to allocate sufficient funds to Tamil Nadu in the interim budget 2024-25. The protest started at 10 AM.

DMK accused the Centre of partiality, citing inadequate funding for Tamil Nadu to address the aftermath of the recent cyclone, rains, and flood. The DMK criticized the interim budget for its absence of relief measures for Tamil Nadu, which had sought approximately Rs 37,000 crore for recovery efforts following the cyclone, unprecedented rains, and flood in December 2023.

“Also, there was no announcement in the interim budget on fund allocation for Tamil Nadu’s development projects, including establishment of the AIIMS in Madurai," the DMK said, as per PTI.
