Kerala HC Initiates Suo Motu Proceedings Against PFI For Calling Bandh In State

Kerala HC order said, nobody can call for a bandh without permission and instructed the police to ensure that adequate measures are put in place to prevent any damage to public or private property.

Chennai: The Kerala High Court on Friday initiated suo motu proceedings against Popular Front of India (PFI) members for calling a one-day statewide ban in the state without receiving prior permission from the police or the court. The PFI member had on Thursday called for a bandh against the raids by NIA and ED in PFI offices during one of the biggest crackdowns against terror funding.

In a tweet, ANI said, “Kerala High Court initiates suo motu case against the leaders of PFI for calling a one-day statewide bandh in Kerala. As per a Kerala HC order, nobody can call for a bandh in the state without permission”.

During the proceedings, the Kerala High Court said, “The police should ensure that adequate measures are put in place to prevent any damage/destruction to public/private property of Government and citizens who do not support the call for strike.”

On Thursday, PFI called for a bandh to condemn the detention of 22 top leaders including their chairman OMA Salam and others during NIA and ED raids.

On Friday, the PFI went on a rampage in several places and even took to stone pelting in a couple of locations.

The cadre even attacked Kerala State Road Transport Corporation buses where some staff members suffered injuries. 

They attacked a car traveling to the airport with a passenger who wanted to take an international flight. In another instance, PFI activists rammed their two-wheelers on two policemen causing injuries to them in the state.
