Holiday Declared In Schools, Colleges In Several Tamil Nadu Districts Due To Continuous Rain

Several district collectors in Tamil Nadu districts have announced a holiday for schools and colleges amid heavy rains.

A holiday has been announced in schools and colleges in several districts in Tamil Nadu amid continuous rain. According to news agency ANI, district collectors of Nagapattinam, Kilvelur Taluk, Viluppuram, Cuddalore, Ranipet, Vellore and Tiruvannamalai have declared a holiday for schools and colleges. A holiday has also been announced for schools in Kallakurichi as well,  reported the agency citing district collector Sravan Kumar Jatavath.

The state has been battling severe floods due to heavy downpours. On Saturday, the Old Courtallam Falls, located on the foothills of the mountain range near Tenkasi witnessed a flash flood in the Western Ghats. Due to the floods, travellers are not permitted to bathe near the waterbodies next to the Old Courtallam Falls, a significant tourist destination in the region, according to an official. 

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has requested Rs 12,000 crore in national help and Rs 7,300 crore in urgent relief for flood-related damages.
